During this project BRACE supported the CAN architects with the migration of different functionalities from different ECUs to a more central ECU. A setup that relies more on smart sensors and smart actuators is the result.
The main goal is to reduce the number of ECUs and thus the space required for these ECUs in the cab and to reduce the size of the main harness between the chassis and the cab.
The other part of the work was updating the CAN database to the latest state and implementing newer messages and systems in the CAN database. The database was checked for incorrect gateway and send/receive issues.
Several Visio diagrams have been created to clarify the vehicle functions (old vs. new setup) with their CAN bus messages and associated wired interfaces.
