The Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of (parts of) the product, components and (sub) systems. Works in one of the project teams (Landing Gear, Electrical Systems, Powerplant, Interior-Body, Lift System or Structure), led by the Project Team Lead. The tasks described below (in broad outline) can also be performed by a Junior Design Engineer, who often performs these tasks under the supervision of a more experienced Design Engineer. Reports hierarchically and operationally to the Project Team Lead. Reports technically to the Chief of Design, is facilitated by the Project Team Lead and Lead Design Engineers
Designs parts and (sub)systems of the product, in close collaboration with the other Engineers and in line with the applicable design requirements and certification requirements. Realizes (parts of) development projects according to agreed agreements with regard to lead time, costs and quality. Elaborates models of parts and (sub)systems in detail. Makes strength calculations using the appropriate calculation software. Makes models and prototypes to test and substantiate the design choices made. Chairs design review meetings under the supervision of a Lead Design Engineer or Project Teamlead. Tests the feasibility of the design through analysis and by involving suppliers and internal stakeholders in the design process.
Creates test plans that match certification requirements. Set up tests and build test rigs to test the design. Reports the test results. Makes any changes to the design as a result of the tests performed.
Develops and designs production tools and translates the technical challenge into feasible technical solutions that contribute to efficiency within production, under the supervision of a Lead Design Engineer or Project Team Lead. Records feasible working methods, for example by writing work instructions. Analyzes problems and resolves complaints encountered during the production phase with the design.
- HBO working and thinking level, supplemented with knowledge of engineering and design techniques. Knowledge of construction drawings in CAD (SolidWorks) and PLM and strength calculations. English language in speaking and writing is a pre.
